Last year my son was in first grade at a local charter school. Almost every day at drop off he would cry going into school. He would always say when I picked him up that his days were so long and that he missed me so much. I felt this tugging feeling that it shouldn’t be this way. Why, if we are able, should we force our kids to spend so much time away from us? He was so anxious and was just not his happy self during the school week. My husband and I looked into options and decided that homeschooling would be the best fit for our family.
The Utah Fits All Scholarship has allowed us to find the best fit for our family’s education, with less stress. We have options and can try different curriculums and classes without putting our family into financial hardship. It has allowed our kids to take classes we otherwise wouldn’t. They can grow as a person and figure out their likes and dislikes and the things they are passionate about, unrestricted by a household budget.
Our learning environment is flexible, giving us so much more quality time together. We love to camp and explore the outdoors, and there are so many learning opportunities that can be taught during these experiences. Our education is not defined by a building and cookie cutter courses that not every child fits into. I have seen my children’s confidence soar, because instead of moving on when they may not fully understand something, we can revisit and relearn so they are not struggling later down the line.
Homeschooling and this scholarship have changed our lives for the better. My kids are so happy. We have joined many homeschool programs and activities and I feel that my kids are more socialized than they ever have been. We couldn’t be more thankful for the Utah Fits All Scholarship. Thank you for giving so many the opportunity they may not have had before. I hope this program expands and can impact so many more families’ lives like it has ours.
