My 13-year-old son and 16-year-old-daughter have flourished under the Utah Fits All Scholarship, both academically and personally. They love to show off what they learn with each other and collaborate. Their bond has strengthened through shared experiences, learning side by side in ways a classroom could never offer.
The scholarship has opened doors we didn’t even know existed. Beyond academics, they are developing independence, problem-solving skills, and a deep passion for their interests. My son’s ability to set his own learning pace has resulted in stronger time management and organization, and I see real-world application of his studies every day. At first, I worried about losing the structure of a traditional school, but instead of needing constant supervision, they’re so engaged in their projects that I actually have more time—and when we are together, they are happier and more fulfilled.
Socially, this has been a positive shift as well. While they may not be in a classroom setting, their interactions are richer, more meaningful, and centered around shared interests. Whether collaborating with mentors, industry experts, or fellow hobbyists, they are gaining real-world experience and confidence that will carry them far into the future.
As a single parent, I was hesitant to take this leap, but it has been the best decision for our family. The freedom to learn, grow, and explore on their own terms has been truly life-changing thanks to the Utah Fits All Scholarship. I hope more families can access this opportunity and experience the same transformation.
