We applied for the Utah Fits All Scholarship for the 2024-25 school year for my kindergartner but due to our income level didn’t get it. As a result, to get some level of funding, we enrolled her in a public education option that supports homeschooling. It isn’t nearly as flexible as Utah Fits All. We prefer to use a religious curriculum for language arts and science; however, that is not allowed with our current option, so that is a large cost that we had to pay out of pocket. My daughter was also hoping to start a Spanish curriculum but, due to the cost and the financial limitations of our current situation, we were unable to afford it this school year.
Receiving the scholarship for my daughter in her first grade year would give us a lot more curriculum options. She would also be able to start music lessons, which are so beneficial to the mind. I want to note that the Utah Fits All Program currently does not fit all, it fits only low income families. This is very disheartening for us, as even though the income preference levels categorize us as middle income, with the rising cost of everything we are barely getting by and it greatly impacts how we are able to homeschool our child. Our family would love to see this scholarship truly fit all and not devalue those that fit above a certain line.
