We are a family of six, soon to be seven. We love our children so much, so a good education is one of the best gifts we can give them. We had been researching options outside of public school for over a year, and we found one that really aligned with our families values that we felt confident would build our children’s character and knowledge. This microschool focuses on independence and freedom, values that align with our Constitution. That freedom and independence also includes responsibilities and consequences. The kids at this school are not lectured; they are guided, allowed to make choices, and suggest their own solutions to solve problems. Problem solving is undoubtedly a necessary skill for any person to have.
While learning everything about this microschool that we could, we deliberated and budgeted. We knew the Utah Fits All Scholarship would go a long way in helping us afford this school that had become a dream of ours. Unfortunately, we did not receive it and were worried it would now be unaffordable. However, it was very important to us, so we cut back on a lot of expenses to make it work. Three of our kids now attend this school, and it is everything we hoped it would be.
Our one son is able to go above and beyond with math instead of being held back by the pace of the rest of his class. Another son isn’t forced to sit still and can learn about electric circuits that he is so interested in. Our kindergarten son has had the freedom to explore and find a love for learning. He’s learned to solve problems and disagreements with other children around his age.
Each of our kids has grown in ways that they would not have in traditional public school. Our family has grown together as we, the parents, are more able to be involved with our children’s learning. We can help them set goals and see them reach goals and sometimes fail. We are so grateful to be a part of that.
With another child coming into our home, and the hope of having our daughter attend this school in the future, we really need the Utah Fits All Scholarship to continue to give our children this dream. We hope it becomes available to more of us! It would be such a blessing to give this gift to all our children.
